Photography
From Hobby to Passion
My Photographic Journey
I bought my first camera, an analog Nikon F301, in my early 20s at the end of the 1980s. During my studies, my passion for photography waned and had to be rekindled at the end of the 1990s. My Nikon remained loyal to me, despite technical advancements such as autofocus, I saw no reason to switch. In the 2000s, partly due to the birth of my children, I switched to digital photography. Initially, I tried compact cameras from Nikon, Canon, and Samsung, then the Samsung NX10, the first mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses, appeared on the market. I was practically an “early adopter” of mirrorless technology. After upgrading to the Samsung NX 1, the reference model in this segment at the time, I landed on the Sony Alpha 7 III in 2021, and in 2024 I upgraded to the Sony Alpha 7 IV. The beginning of the Corona pandemic also led me to image editing with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. My workflow now includes software from different manufacturers, but my learning process is far from over… I think there’s still a lot to learn.
My Photographic Philosophy
When photographing, the professional team player suddenly becomes an individualist. With the camera, I can discover the world or implement photographic projects as I wish. Photography is also a way for me to capture moments and preserve memories. I use the camera to express my creative impulses and capture the beauty of the world around me. When I take photos, I want them to have personal meaning for me. I want to remember the moment I took the photo and enjoy how I saw the world at that moment. It is important to me to create my photos in my own way and not to be influenced by the opinions of others. I encourage everyone to be creative in their own way and to express their own voice in art. Photography gives me the opportunity to find and express my own voice, and that is an incredibly valuable and fulfilling experience for me.

My Work
I am a generalist photographer and not restricted to one genre. I like to be out and about late in the evening or at night, when the world is colorful. As a coastal child, lighthouses are of course one of the subjects I regularly photograph. But I also do astrophotography, high-speed photography, street photography and portrait photography. You can find out more about me as a photographer and my work on my dedicated website https://miarto.de.
